We finally succombed to the temptation of Wii. 'Sports' is all well and good, and I ordered the 'Wii Fit', but wondering what other games are available.

DH and I are both 37, DD is almost 3. Please suggest games that we will love.

Thank you!

Let's forget DD for a minute

Are there some really good games for adults?

our 3 yr old is quite good on wii games. depends on your dc i suppose. he likes sonic and mario, bowling, mario kart and has asked for lego star wars or diego for his birthday.

It depends on what sort of game you like, I guess. I really enjoy Guitar Hero, and the RRR franchise. I don't mind Big Brain Academy, but don't love it. Oh, kororinpo was ok, Eledees is good.

ZoeC · 17/06/2008 10:53

For adults, I am quite enjoying Scarface, it is VERY violent though and the language is very, um, rich shall we say so keep the volume down and play at night only! I haven't got very far though, I keep getting shot.

CoteDAzur · 17/06/2008 12:05

Scarface sounds interesting. Is it just about the shooting or is there a plot?

the new ski family one is quite good fun -you can play it with remote or wii board.

Rayman raving rabbids is still all time house favourite though.

CoteDAzur · 17/06/2008 12:11

What are kororinpo and eledees?

RRR looks hilarious

Lego Star Wars & Lego Indiana Jones are both awesome ... my 4 year old plays both of those (with help!)

Mario Party is easy for a 3 year old - it's effectively one big board game.

I've heard GREAT things about Boom Blox which is supposed to be good fun for small children all the way up to adults, although it's on my wishlist and not actually purchased here yet

Need For Speed Pro Street - okay, probably for an older child ... my 7 year old loves the free play (rather than career path) options. I'm addicted to it too.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is really good fun and a nice use of the controllers - not suitable for the kiddie though.

poppy34 · 17/06/2008 12:20

am now worried as dh likes lego indiana jones and he is 40 something.. sounds like your 4 year old might be better at it

RubberDuck · 17/06/2008 12:35

LOL

Indiana Jones is trickier than Star Wars. I think the trick is my 4 year old doesn't really care if he "wins" or "completes a level"... and the most fun bits are flinging a character off a cliff to watch the blocks disintegrate

7 year old is the one who pushes them on to the next level (and he's got further than I have on the game!)

ZoeC · 17/06/2008 12:36

Scarface starts as the film ends, rewriting it so he doesn't die, he comes out shooting but his empire is gone and he has to rebuild it from scratch.

Can't comment much on the plot, am struggling to get out of the damn house atm. Dh is better at it than me!

RubberDuck · 17/06/2008 12:38

(trick to getting a young child to enjoy Lego Star Wars or Lego Indiana Jones - get an older child or yourself complete the level, then let them repeat the level on "Free Play" - they can then just muck around with more characters to switch between and not worry about solving the puzzles so much)

poppy34 · 17/06/2008 12:41

rubberduck -can I borrow your 7 year old to do the levels so dh can do the freeplay afterwards?

RubberDuck · 17/06/2008 12:42
  • given the amount of backchat he seems to have been giving me lately, gladly
poppy34 · 17/06/2008 12:45

he can join in with my dss then who was simply appalled to find his dad playing this game

cornflakegirl · 17/06/2008 12:58

DH really liked Mario Galaxy, loves Mario Kart, also likes the Metroid Prime games. Mercury Meltdown was good. Paper Mario also okay, though not as good as the Gamecube version.

Bowling - DS (3, but then about 2.5) seemed to take ages to grasp the concept of releasing the ball - but then suddenly got it, and because pretty proficient quite quickly. He also loves Mario Kart (can win at 50cc), and Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (although DH not so keen on this one - borrowed from friends).

We have Wii Sports and have just got Wii play. Both enjoyed by dh and myself (although he will no longer play golf with me because I beat him). dh (36), dd (7) and ds (9) enjoy Mario Galaxy, and it's quite fun to watch too. Both games are best with a few people, not to be taken too seriously.

I like BoomBlox- lots of little puzzles (a bit sort of jengaish) which appeal to the perfectionist in me, and some silly freeplay which ds enjoys.

Dh has just bought the Indiana Jones Lego game. dd likes MySims, but it is a bit repetitive - quite soothing though

However ds's favourite still remains Super Smash Bros, which is a fairly traditional beat 'em up game.

NotQuiteCockney · 17/06/2008 17:47

Kororinpo is a ball game - you have to move little marbles through mazes, more or less. They get really hard, fast, but are interesting and cute.

Eleedees is v weird, v japanese, you are wandering around a house finding little creatures and collecting them, basically. But you use the remote to pick things up, shake them, turn them upside down ... basically, you're trashing the house. It's fun.

Oh, the way we find new games we like is to rent them - lovefilm have quite a few wii games, and you just fill out a wishlist and have them one at a time. Bit random, and some of them will really really suck (I promise) but hey, at least you've not bought them.

I don't rate Zelda, but then I got stuck and couldn't get anywhere with it (fishing - just can't seem to do it - should give it another go, but if I'm on the wii, I'm doing wii fit, or more likely, guitar).

RubberDuck · 17/06/2008 17:50

Ah - I found a Zelda walk through on the net... so if I get really stuck I go read what I have to do next. Cheating I know, but keeps it playable

NotQuiteCockney · 17/06/2008 21:40

I'm afraid that even with the walkthroughs, I couldn't get fishing to work.

merryforge · 18/06/2008 09:13

Your DD a bit too young for this maybe, but our favourite game by far and away has been Wario Ware Smooth Moves - lots of hilarious, really fast games (less than a minute each) that will have you in stitches either playing yourself or watching your DH. I have a short attention span for games but this one has kept us entertained for weeks - more so even than Mario Kart (which is good but 'busy' and needs a bit of practice before you can play without getting cross.)

I love Zelda and have got quite far with it but it needs hours of play - Wario Ware you can just dip right into for the odd 20 mins.

christywhisty · 19/06/2008 23:55

I loved elidees, but the dc's weren't so keen.
I am playing Tomb raider at the moment, which is good, but I can't get a hang of the grapple hook and have to get DS 12 to do it for me.

DS likes Mario Paper

CoteDAzur · 20/06/2008 09:35

I got Wii Play. We will see how it goes tonight

I also got Wii Fit but DD doesn't let me stay on it for long.
