Restoring old photos

Does anyone have any experience with photo restoration apps or AI instruments? Which are the ones that are really good? I have a bunch of old photos, some are severely damaged and have deep scratches or faded colors, and some look fine but I'd like to colorize them. I'm not sure about AI since I've heard it can change faces and details while adding colors or removing damaged parts, so if you've had a really good experience, please share! Thanks!

I’ve had some very good results with Dola. Especially for repairing and adding colour to sepia or black and white. It has been known to change faces but not often and I always state do not change the faces.

If you are on Facebook there are several groups dedicated to it - post an old picture and several people will have a go at restoring it for you, often with lovely results.
I don't actually belong to any of them - I think they come up randomly on my feed because I belong to a couple of "Ancestry/Family Tree" type sites.

Thank you!
I'm rarely on Facebook but I think I still have an account, I'll check the groups

I think you could do a lot in Photoshop if you have it, or there are photo restoration programs that are built just like your average editors, just for old photos, like Photoglory or similar stuff. I've tried it a couple of years ago and got pretty good results with both cleaning the pictures and colorizing them. They also have a websites with tutorials and guides that could be quite useful too

As for AI, I've read that Nano Banana editor is good, but then again sometimes it adds features that weren't originally there. It's sadly a common thing with AI restoration.
