Best web hosting for Macs with Rapidweaver?

My spangly new website is all done and ready to go. I have my domain name bought through 123-reg, but having bought web hosting from them as well, have found they don't have 24-7 phone support which I need.

I don't mind taking the hit and not using the hosting I've paid for with them and going elsewhere. Which hosting service is best for use with Macs? The site was created in Rapidweaver 4, and I want to use the inbuilt FTP client to upload my website for publishing.

Any geeky help extremely welcome.

Should have added we are using Virgin Media cable broadband as our ISP. Apparently.

No idea about Mac's I'm afraid, but I think your main stumbling point will be 24/7 phone support. Most hosts (at least affordable ones) don't provide that... they will provide e-mail support, but it may not be that fast.

Rackspace.co.uk provide 24/7 support, but they don't show any pricing on their website.
I suspect they are for big business, not a small website (am I right in guessing that you are not major business?).

Why do you need 24/7 phone support? What support are you expecting? They won't teach you how to code in HTML, CSS, PHP etc. They won't know about Rapidweaver 4, support for that would be from the software developer.

Why not try using the space you have with 123reg and see how you get on. You could always move it to another host in the future.

Hi Nick

Got your email, thanks, I'm going to get DH to read it in a sec, as he is my IT department!

You are right I am not big business (at least not at the moment ). The reason I was hoping for 24/7 support is because it's my DH who is going to be in charge of website stuff, which means we will actually mostly need support evenings and weekends. I take your point about the cost being prohibitive and certainly budget is very tight at the moment.

The other reason for possibly wanting to switch from 123 was that we got stuck this morning trying to publish, and then found we couldn't contact them, so DH did a google search and found all sorts of complaints about them.

However, he's been playing with various different work-rounds he's found and we did get it up briefly. It's now down again for a bit of tinkering, but it is doable, so we are going to go with the 123 space for a bit and see how it goes as you recommend.

thanks so much

Hope you get it sorted. Initial teething trouble is often the case, but once you have got the upload working, then things can be a lot easier from there.

Feel free to contact me if you need any help - you know my email
