Norton wont let me check my AOL email. HELP!

I have just recently installed Norton Antivirus, which I bought from PC World a while ago.
Whenever I tried to check my Hotmail email (which Iv never had any problems with) it said the website had had its security certifiate revoked, and wouldnt let me continue. It stopped doing this after a few days.
But, now its doing it with my AOL email, and its been doing it for a week or so, so I cant check my email.
What do I do? Can I turn Norton off?
I tried turning the Firewall off to see if it worked then, but it didnt, and tbh, Iv no idea what Im doing.
HELP!!

It will almost certainly have a setting you can untick for checking email. Go through the preferences step by step.
However the real solution is not to install Norton.

Uninstall Norton.

Install Free AVG

Oops forgot to say.

Never, ever, buy Norton again.

Important that bit

Found a norton manual and it's not clear, but it seems you can disable Auto-Protect if it prevents you doing something.

1 In the Windows tray, right-click the Norton AntiVirus icon.

2 If Auto-Protect is enabled, click Disable Auto-Protect.

How do you proect your computer without buying something, ie Norton.
Am a confused novice.

St Georges link above is for AVG which is free and a lot less trouble than norton.
You can also get free firewalls.

Norton was probably good once, but became kind of overpowering as though the only way to protect you was to keep you prisoner and away from the internet.

If you study the Norton Manual (on the CD) you may find you can live with it.

2nd recommendation.

Drop Hotmail - of all the well known free email suppliers, it has the most problems and crashes.
Also difficult if you want to use POP and run your mail through something like Thunderbird or Outlook (this last bit not really important if I have baffled you )

Try Yahoo, or better still Googlemail.
