Can I load microsoft office 2003 with Vista (on laptop)

I have the disc and have tried to install it many times but without much luck.
My laptop came with microsoft office 2007 installed on it, but it was only a trial version.

I unistalled the trial version before I installed the new version but its not working. It gets to a point where it says it is caching something or other then it stops working.

I can possibly find the disk and tell you exactly what it says, could take some time though as my house is a mess!
I was kind of hoping someone else has already had this and knows how to fix it.

Dunno.

But if you can't OpenOffice is a free to download which is great and has same functionality (some would say better) as MS Office.

Files are fully compatible too.

or this may help re Office 2003

charliecat · 17/05/2008 18:02

I am using openoffice instead..just as good.

Also I had to beg my Step father to install OO as it was free.

He was reluctant as he didn't want to learn new software.

It is v v similar. He is now very happy and saved himself £90

Ok, maybe I should just go with the OO as I need a programme I can use on the computer for work. At the moment I only have access to notepad which looks very, very basic.

Off to investigate now.

Notepad is lower than Tesco value....in hierachical terms - so yes try OO.

just downloading oo now, thanks

how did you get on?

Indith · 18/05/2008 13:30

Odd, I've had office 2000 on with vista. Did take a few attempts to install though and had to find the run files by opening the disc through my computer. Open Office is good though although if you are switching a lot between OO and Microshaftsoft Office you might find it a little frustrating as the formatting doesn't always transfer so you find yourself having to do it again.

kid · 18/05/2008 16:26

Well I downloaded it but haven't used it yet. Could do that now, but I keep getting distracted by the internet!

I have a problem!

As I had already done some of the work in Microsoft office, I editted it in openoffice. I saved it, but it seems to have failed to save the work.
It saved one lot of work I did, but not the other 3 pieces
Its not the end of the world as I only made slight changes, but it means it has either saved it elsewhere on the computer, or its just not able to save.

Any tips?!

Its okay, panic over as I have found it. For some reason it saved it outside of the folder I thought I had sent it to.

Openoffice is much the same as mircosoft office really, I'm happy to stick with it rather than pay for office!
