Anyone know about running two operating systems on one pc?

Have calmed down slightly since finding out my new vista laptop won't run my version of Sage accounts

As it is a dual processor laptop am thinking of loading XP as well as vista to run sage.

Does anyone know if I will have to reload sage to another directory etc or will I be able to run it on XP from where it is now on the laptop?

Thank you!

I seem to remember a friend of mine having this problem with Sage & he discovered that there's a way to run it - a compatibility option. I think he tried Option 2
here & apparently it worked.

You should try that compatibility option. I forgot about that possibility. Installing another operating system is a bigger deal than it sounds.

I only did it with XP & Windows 98 so you'd need up to date advice, but essentially you have to shove along all the files on the hard drive to make a space using a special program. Install XP in there from scratch and install everything you need from drivers to Sage. Then after some messing about you reboot and it gives you a choice to boot into Vista or XP.

Dual Boot Vista/XP

What might work is running Virtual PC and having it emulate XP

Compatibility option didn't work.

We went back to pc world today and they have

a) offered to refund

b) offered to sell us a copy of xp for £65

c) offered to sell us the latest copy of sage (equivalent to the one i have already) for £1200

I seriously don't know what to do, I want to return it. DH says I am being a 'spoilt child' and might as well stamp my feet but I feel like I've spent £1099 and it won't do what I want it to do (like they told us it would!) and therefore I don't want it.

the thing with virtual PC is I still need a copy of xp which i don't have, might as well dual boot in that case.

Well I'd take the refund and get a PC with XP on it. You're not being unreasonable. It doesn't do what you wanted it for.
I see no advantage to Vista other than a few flashy bits.

Dh's dad had this problem and he eventually got Sage running on Vista but only after he'd put Service Pack 1 on.

Personally I'd take the whole thing back and buy something elsewhere, but then I don't like PC World
