Does anyone know where I could get a free download of power point please?

I have a presentation to do on Thursday & want to get it all out of the way.

I can do it from university but it means going down a night through the week & I don't really want to do that unless I really have to.

If I could download a free trial & get it stuck onto my memory pen it would be great

Any ideas?

This is a trial of the 2007 version - if you want to later use the file on a computer which has an earlier version of office it you will need to save your presentation in the right format or download a converter file from Microsoft.

nope. Just an option from a drop down. Choose Save As rather than Save... ..easy peasy.. ..where've all the the OpenSource peeps gone recommending OpenOffice???

ooh.. .you can't run the program from the memory stick.. ...but you can (I think) save presentations in a standalone running format.

The most common format would be PowerPoint 2000-2003....

...fade in/out/etc for objects (text/images/etc) are all animation effects so that's where to look. To build a slide, you want build effects where you specify which elements should appear first and how they should appear.

I hate powerpoint.

I downloaded the 2007 version.

I just knocked together some crappy slides to see how it worked... I saved them to the stick.

I then took the stick to my other pc & tried to get it to play... the fecker is saying it's not in PP format

Yet when I stick in into this laptop again it goes the best.

So I'm guessing it won't work on the uni laptop on Thursday & I am going to have to take this laptop in with me.... bugger.

why does everything have to be so bloody technical... overheads I can do!!!!

Haven't got a handy copy of PowerPoint to check but rather than Save, use Save As and take a look at the options. There used to be standalone presentation option (basically a crappy program that played your slides!)

There's an option to "save as Powerpoint Show", which'll let any PC play a slide show, but won't give the option of changing it. I use it hand work in when I don't know if my tutor has definitely got access to PP.

I don't have Office 2007 here, but I know that Word 2007 saves documents as .docx instead of .doc, which all previous versions used. I assume Powerpoint does the same so your file will be saved as 'crappyslides.pptx'

This tells you how to save your file in PowerPoint 97-2003 format so it can be read by a computer using an earlier version.

The alternative is to download the Compatibility Pack (there is a link to do this further down the page)but you would have to install this on the computer you are going to read the file on & if it's a university machine , I'm guessing you won't be allowed to do this. (though if you can get hold of a tech it might be worth asking if they are planning to do this, or if there are any machines available that have it, as more & more people will be getting Office 2007 in the future)
