Is the laptop running Windows, Mac OS or something else?

FrippEnos · 03/09/2024 08:09

If its a Chromebook is two fingers on the track pad.

Click with two fingers at once.

Sounds like you're using the trackpad on the laptop (which is always a bit painful). As PP have suggested, try a two finger click. The alternative is that the right hand side of the trackpad will perform a right click. If you can give the manufacturer of the laptop (and some indication of model number would be good too) we can track down more info. I can see for Lenovo, for example, that it might be a two finger tap or it might be a question of holding down the bottom right hand corner of the trackpad and then releasing it to get the right click menu to appear.

These are the instructions from Microsoft for how to get into the touchpad settings, I assume they apply to all laptops and not just their own ones: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/surface/surface-touchpad-use-and-settings-6c32fd32-23f4-c2d3-a3f9-cfc70feff233

Varies by manufacturer, my huawei matebook had an infuriatingly tiny area in the corner of the pad for a right click, and you couldn't just tap like for a left click - you had to physically click the pad.

My new samsung is much more intuitive to use.

As above there will be generic touchpad settings built into windows, and some will have addiotnal settings via their own app or driver software.

My hatred of trackpads/click pads is why I usually plug a full size mouse into one of the USB ports. The five to eight quid is more than worth it. These days if I'm presenting at a venue I don't know the mouse comes with.
