Trying to reconnect wireless on my mac

Mac has been out of commission for a while, recently reconnected it and the wireless won't work. Clicked on the wireless symbol on top right and it shows the router name. Click on it and it asks for the WEP password which is on the back of the router. I entered it 3 times and it kept refusing. Then realised it was because I had 'wep' selected and not 'wep 128 bit' but now the 'ok' button is greyed out. I don't know what to do now... anyone know?

The internet connection works, I am currently on a pc connected by cable. This pc should have wireless too but just brought it home from the office today and it isn't picking up wireless either. The WLAN on the router is lit up and I have restarted/reset the router and still nothing.

Anyone?

Lol I am rubbish at techy stuff but in the past I have had to go to the back of the router and push in a cocktail stick to the little 'inny' button......!!!! seems to do the trick.....

AHA!

TYPE A $ (a dollar sign) BEFORE THE WEP PASSWORD [sophable bows to round of applause for supergeekdom if this works]

If you can get to the router using the PC, try resetting the password, or turning protection off, and seeing if it works then. If not, then the wireless card might be knackered.

if sophables $ sign doesnt work, go to network> system preferences> network, and put in the password there.

do you know the only reason i know this is that i had this exact problem yesterday and the kind man in the call centre explained it to me

hope it worked for you

could I wonder if anyone knows how I make my mac automatically turn on, i have to click on the wireless symbol and choose the right hub every time I switch on the computer (not every time I open a browser thank goodness).

if any of you wiser people know a way to do that I'd be grateful.

wow, didn't expect answers so quickly. In fact I thought this would go pretty much unanswered, was just a shot in the dark! Will have to try tomorrow now as mac off and too close to sleeping baby's room to risk turning it all on.. hope it does though.

I have reset the router with that little button but that's not done anything, it definitely seems to be a problem from the computer side vs the router side iyswim.

I went to the place, I have no idea what you call it, where you type in 192.134.2.1 or whatever in the url box and wireless is enabled and it's built in wireless on both the pc and mac so would be weird if they just stopped working for no reason?

will try tomorrow, thanks for the suggestions..reluctant to call IT support, the last 40min phone call (no doubt expensive but not seen the bill yet)ended when the guy asked if I had an on/off switch on the front of the laptop (different pc) and it did, and yes it was off that's not the case this time, sadly.
