Just thinking about parting with some cash for a DAB. Are they worth it? Any tips/functions to look for or avoid? Thanks.

Check that your area is compatible. I bought a portible one (for going to the gym) and while it works where I worked, it doesn't at home - no signal!

Yes, I wouldn't bother! Mine is a retro looking Bush one, but I find it works best on the normal FM stereo function, rather than DAB which loses the signal often.

I did have it in my kitchen , I wondered of proxomity to other electrical appliancs might be affecting it. But where else would you put it?

Check you get coverage.

DOn't fork out for anything you don't want - don't e.g. pay more to be able ot pause/record programmes if you will listen to them online instead.

I love my DAB - now 3 years old. It was from the cheaper end of the market and is good.

Got me through the long lonely nights with a baby with colic (I listen to bbc7).

What will you listen to on it? If you want just the standard channels then possibly not worth it (you can still get crappy reception on them, but they tend to not give you anything instead of static).

I loved my dab radio downstairs so much, I bought one upstairs too....

We got 'the Bug' years ago for next to the bed. Still very happy with it.

Agree that you should def check coverage in your area first though.

I love my upstairs one so much I'm thinking of getting one for downstairs

MIL takes hers on holiday with her.

But the biggest factor as to why we love ours is because we solely listen to bbc7 - which we wouldn't be able to get on standard radio.

For radio1 (which I listen to when cleaning or in the car) it wouldn't be worth it.

agree bbc7 is worth the money. We have 3....Pute Tempus in the bedroom, Roberts in the utility room and Panasonic in the kitchen. They're much of a muchness, but I would recommend one with a sleep function for the bedroom, as you can set it to go off half an hour later (for example) when you're asleep

Pure Tempus

Get a cheap one to start with, maybe off Ebay and if you get on with it, then upgrade to something better. There are loads of reasonably cheap models to be found on Ebay and Amazon.

We have a Pure One, a Pure Siesta and a Ferguson. I wouldn't recommend the Ferguson, because it's a radio/alarm and it was supposed to have an RRP of £100, but it doesn't have sleep or snooze functions. Of course we didn't actually pay £100 for it.
