I know it's not ours as we never managed to sort it out and it's never worked........how do I stop it connecting to it - as I'm sure it's slowing my computer down when it's trying to connect to a weak wireless signal AND the cabled access.....

if you are connected to a wired network the best option is to turn off the wireless card... normally a switch on the laptop or key combination...

Are you using XP or Vista?

EffiePerine · 10/03/2008 12:35

If you have a Mac you can just turn off the connection using the top menu - Airport I think?

edam · 10/03/2008 12:36

agree with Effie (I only know about Macs) but thank you for reassuring me that I'm not the only dunce who can't get wireless to work!

EffiePerine · 10/03/2008 12:39

Edam: you can check the settings pretty easily on a Mac too I think - Network Connections on Settings? If it isn't working, turning the Airport off and on again sometimes does the trick

Oh, yes, I know, thanks! Have been having problems, BB supplier blamed our phone wiring, got BT out who did fiddle with the wiring and update some stuff, also got new wi-fi router from BB supplier (they originally told me to just go out and buy one but that has never worked so gave up and thought might as well try theirs) but can't try it out yet as am doing some work for a company whose laptop doesn't have a wi-fi card!

Start/Control Panel/Network Connections.

Right-click the Wireless network icon and choose disable.
