Lenovo or HP for a laptop?

I'm trying to decide between these two laptops - HP 250 G9 Intel Core i5-1235U (12th Gen) 16GB RAM 512GB SSD 15.6 inch FHD Windows 11 Pro Laptop and this - Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM 512GB SSD, 15.6in Full HD Laptop - Abyss Blue.
I've only ever had one laptop, my 7 year old HP which is now failing a bit and I don't know anything about Lenovo. Some of the reviews say the screen quality is not great but I'm tempted by the Lenovo because I can buy now pay later and the HP I'd have to bung on the credit card. I sell online, surf the web, email and some streaming.
Any opinions welcome.

Not the most knowledgeable person but I have had several work lenovo laptops and they were bloody brilliant, never went wrong just worked. I have a HP and it is the biggest bloody princess - I am constantly restarting the bloody thing and had a problem with the battery which burst the case open and had to be replaced. I hate it.

I much prefer Lenovo to HP but given a wider choice, I'd go with Asus over both of them.

Another vote for Lenovo. Longevity and reliability is vastly superior to HP in my experience.

I work in IT - I'd go with the HP.

Like everything these days, neither brand is "built to last" any more. But I see a much higher failure rate with Lenovo, especially their consumer-grade models.

Lenovo is a Chinese company who basically bought IBM's computers division years ago. They kept the IBM "look/style" but ditched the IBM quality in favour of cheap & nasty components.

Dh currently has 2 Lenovo ThinkPads and Ds1 has a Lenovo Legion gaming laptop (at uni doing computer science). Dh absolutely loves ThinkPad keyboards and they are solid machines. Dh has been in IT for over 25 years and recommends looking at Lenovo sales, they are random not set throughout the year.

Dh agrees that just like a Nokia brick phone the old IBM ThinkPads were more durable but time has moved on and Dh transports his laptop to and from work in a laptop rucksack as has Ds1 for the last 2 years. The service package that we have for Ds1 is fantastic as he is away at uni we wanted it to be able to be fixed asap as he also has online exams.

@HundredMilesAnHour I've looked at various Asus models and the reviews state that battery life doesn't seen to be that great- unless you've found a good one.

Have you looked at Dell OP?

@HundredMilesAnHour I've looked at various Asus models and the reviews state that battery life doesn't seen to be that great- unless you've found a good one.

I've had multiple Asus Zenbooks and have never had any issues with battery life in over a decade of using them daily. Currently using two Zenbook Duos (one for work, one for personal) and I love them. (I work in IT/consultancy).

The only bugbear with Asus seems to be the power connector which can become a bit flaky with age. It's always been resolved by replacing the power cable though so a cheap fix. Although this seems to have improved on newer models with a USB-C connection instead.
