Free software for producing an A4 leaflet - can anyone help?

I have volunteered to produce a leaflet for a local charity. I want it to be on double sided A4 and then be able to fold it to produce a leaflet a third of the size of A4 - hope that makes sense!
I've googled for templates but its all too confusing. What is the easiest way to do this? I'll be inserting photos and logos and will need the text to wrap round in the columns. Can you help?

I'm sure I once managed to do this on a version of word (or perhaps before word was "invented" it was back in 1996/7 time) or the Apple version of Word.

Seem to recall that I had the layout as landscape and created 3 columns, made up two pages and then after a bit of trial and error managed to print out the two sides onto the same sheet of paper so that they could be neatly folded.

I think you could probably do this with Open Office which is a bit like Power Point. You can download it for free.

try search for "brochure" templates (just been browsing my current word templates).

yes - I've found it. If you have Microsoft word do a search for "brochure" - there's one entitled "Brochure - level theme" (amongst others).

Download it (if it's not already on your computer) and it comes up with the layout on 2 pages which you can then add/alter with your own stuff.

Also Scribus is less well known but has a good reputation. It's mreo of a Desktop Publishing package than a word processor.
