If you change broadband provider then do you have to give back your router and modem etc? And will ones from another broadband provider work for a new provider?

Have decided it is time to chnage boradband provider as we are paying too much. Was just wondering what happens with the router and modem - I see that lots of providers offer them free but does that mean I would need to send the old ones back to that provider?

almost certainly not.. ..are you out of contract with your current provider?

Took out the broadband with them in Sept 2005 so presume I am (although don't know if you have to have things in periods of 12 months, IYKWIM)

It is very rare you have to give them back. Unless they explicitly ask for it back, you get to keep it Don't offer it back - they may take it as a chance, but if they want it, i'm pretty sure they will ask for it.

Similar to a phone contract, when you cancel it, you still get to keep the phone they gave you.

Orange ask for it all back or else they charge you £100 so I wouldn't go flogging it all on ebay or anything just in case.

So do virgin they send someone around to collect it

Thank you everyone - I wasn't intending to sell them - I was just wondering if I would have to send it back.

Anyway, need to decide who to change to now .

once the contract is up the hardware is yours..

However some devices are customised to work with the providers.. however some are not..
