Has anyone had that BASTARD reboot virus?

The one that makes your PC go off the second it turns on, just after the Windows screen comes on? It gets trapped in a loop of on-off. And how have you dealt with it?

I went into Safe mode and did a System Restore. In fact I had to do three SRs before I got one that worked. My computer is currently back in December. Happy Christmas.

I worry this may just have brushed the thing under the carpet. I've had it 3 times now.

I've got AntiVir & ZoneAlarm, so am well protected. Also ran Stinger this morning (in safe mode) which can pick up other nasties.

Any advice appreciated!

Does it start at all in safemode or do you still get the mystery reboots?

Sounds like it could be hardware - checked your RAM?

I have something similar, can I ask you how do you start it in safe mode, is it F2 or F12 or something??

F8, just after any bios messages have disappeared and before the screen goes completely black..

Or sometimes it gives you the option to start in safe mode.

Yes, safe mode was OK so I was able to do a virus scan and the System Restore.

How do I check RAM?

OK, so I've been told this could be either a conflict of hardware or imminent HD failure.

I've unchecked Automatic Restart in the system settings, so that if it is a conflict I should get a Blue Screen next time telling me what's wrong...

yikes...i started getting ablue screen messgae thhing last night. sayong something about hardware failure but I haven't installed any new hardware....
does it mena my PC is about to die?

This happened to me approx two weeks ago, and my hard drive failed, fortunately i was able to get someone to retrieve all the pics etc, but it was fairly expensive.

we had the blue screen of death a couple of weeks ago and we do have a firewall and anti-virus stuff .

it took my lovely dh a couple of days to sort it all out and reconfigure everything and retrieve our data.

To be honest OD, it could be imminent 'anything' failure.

Don't pay for memtest86, it should be free, just download Ultimate Boot CD and run it from there.
