Can you link 2 Echo Dots together from different households?

Hi I was wondering if I could link my Echo Dot to my mum's who lives minutes away to drop in on her to see if she is OK?

All help appreciated!

Thanks.

Watching with interest I've tried to do the same with my Dad but with an echo show - from what I have read I think we both need separate Amazon accounts and then need to "allow" each other access to the respective device. I'll be honest I got a bit lost with it and gave up 🤣.

You can definitely do this if your mum's device is linked to the same account as you OP. We set my mum's up on my amazon account and she we can drop in on each other just the same as if we were in the same house.

Brilliant! Thanks. Do you have any basic instructions for this at all (need guidance!)

All we did was set up mum's device on our account using the app in exactly the same as we did our own (I am clueless about this bit, teenage DD did ours and mum's). If your mum already has hers on her own amazon account I assume you can re-set it and set it up as if it is yours. You can then name each device eg. ours is 'OurName kitchen' and hers is 'Mum'. She then just needs to say Alexa drop in on OurName kitchen and we can speak to each other through our devices. The fact that the devices are not in the same house makes no difference at all. You can do the same the other way round and drop in on her. When you want to end the discussion just say Alexa Stop and the channel closes. Word of warning- once it's set up it's so easy to use that my technophobe mum now does this in preference to making a phone call so has become like an ever present ghostly voice in my kitchen!

I've done it thanks!

@walkingonthemoon did it make any difference that your Mum's echo was on a different broadband?

You can do it with smart lights as well. I decided to say let rhere be light to my bedroom one once and all the kids lights came on. Even my oldest sons who lived next door and was on different WiFi

@TimeToMoveIt wow can you really? That would massively help my Dad if I can do that as well thank you I'm off to give it a whirl 🤓

I have the lampux app on my phone and they are all on there so you could control them through the app as well
