Please please help me - how can I print a photo when I accidentally took the picture in video mode?

OK, so DS has school project involving photos of him taken a various places.

In order to make it possible we bought a new camera and a new printer. I then rushed around all weekend to get most of the pics I needed because tomorrow I am due to have chemotherapy and will probably be ill for the rest of the week.

I didn't have time to read the manual before I went and took the pics, I just read the quickstart guide and went and did it.

I've just spent 2 hours installing the pc programme and uploading the pics only to find that a dial on the camera got accidentally turned and I've shot half the pics as videos.

Nowhere in my manual can I find anywhere that tells me how to get a still out of it that I can print.

Neither can I work out how to edit for such things as red-eye.

Please help me, I don't have the energy to rush round all these places again and I still have one or two others to complete today, involving a long drive, as well as a trip to the hospital for a blood test.

Camera is a Fuji A900 by the way.

Here is one way that might work. Windows comes with Movie Maker - check All Programs, Accessories. Launch the application. Choose File, Import into collections and browse for your video file(s). Import. The window on the right will show your video. Play it until you reach the required frame, then click on the little camera icon. A save as box will come up - you can save your picture as a jpg.

Thank you pellshky, but I have just tried that and the program is not there.

I can't even figure out how to save these photos in a normal folder instead of in the Fuji folder it automatically goes into. There doesn't seem to be any option for moving them. Perhaps if I could move them I could edit them with the windows picture editor. I'm in despair as I have tried so hard to make this good for DS and I just can't face doing it all again with the tiredness and certainty of feeling ill the rest of the week.

Please, anybody, what can I do?

I'm off to school but will have a look and see if I can find a way to do it when I get back. (I'm no expert, but don't mind having a look at my camera and see if I can manage it.) I think the pics may be much lower quality, but should still be printable.)

I can drag and copy jpegs with Ctl C, Ctl V on my pc - have you tried that?

Thank you redadmiral - I really have to go and get some more of the shots I need while it is still light now and perhaps replace one of the ones that went wrong.

I will come back later and check this thread and try any suggestions this evening (prob about 9pm UK time which is 5pm here).

Right. I just stayed a little longer while I waited for my washing to finish so I can hang it out before I go. And decided to fiddle with this a bit more.

I have managed to re-upload the photos directly with the windows picture and scanner wizard and by-pass the fuji program, thus I now have them stored in normal folders. I still can't figure out how to print a still from them though, but I do now have them in a format I can email to anyone who thinks they might be able to do it for me.

Any more suggestions would be most welcome, I'll be back later.

Ok. I'm trying ot out now with mine. Hopefully someone else will know more, but I'll look out for your post later just in case.

Had a quick look. When I right-click on the AVI movie file I get a question about using windows movie player to open it as pellshky says. I don't have it on my pc, but it's giving me the option to download it. Might be worth trying that.

redadmiral · 11/02/2008 18:26

Bumping this for anorak.

redadmiral · 11/02/2008 22:41

Going to bed now. Hope you get it sorted. I think if no-one else comes along who can help you should try downloading windows movie player and using that as Pellshky describes.
Good luck.

Hi. Before downloading movie maker double check that you don't already have it. In windows explorer find your hard disk where your program files are stored - usually my computer, local disk (c, program files. Is there a directory called movie maker there? The path should be C:\Program Files\Movie Maker and the program is moviemk. Double click on the program icon to launch.

Also, some media playing software comes with a frame capture facility; PowerDVD does. Good luck.

Hello redadmiral and pellshky, sorry I didn't get back to mumsnet earlier, had a heck of a day, one thing after another.

Anyway, guess what, my 15 year old daughter knew how to get a still out of it, and she showed me how to do it.

You use the printscreen key on your keyboard then go into the paint program on your main menu, click paste, then click on the button with the dotted rectangle, drag the dotted lines round your image and then copy and paste it into a file.

How the hell she knew all that I don't know, but it worked!

Thanks ever so much for all your efforts anyway!

Why didn't you say you had a 15 year old daughter! My 8 year old knows more than me.

I know redadmiral, I should have known she would know what to do. She can't sew a button on though
