What exactly does this mean? How can someone have emailed me with my own email address? Do I have a virus?

they can't but there are ways of masking the from part of the email address, thats how criminals often trick people into thinking emails are from banks or paypal or the like. Unless you see the full header details of the email which you usually don't with webmail then you wouldn't realise this. I used to get this a lot but use outlook and have the full header details visible and you can tell where its actually from.

By the way it means nothing, just ignore them and never ever reply or follow any links.

thanks. was worried that everyone in my address book would be sent the same mail, and they'd think it was from me

Hi Flier,
Exactly the same is happening to me and get dozens of these emails a week regarding viagra and how I can increase my size to impress the ladies (WTF??)
I've also started getting emails from myself advertising viagra
Not really sure what to think??
I'm just hoping that if I just ignore them the'll go away but it's been about 3 months now?
Just wondered if anyone else can shed light on this???

Means nothing - it's just disguising the true address. Delete and ignore. If you have a mail viewer which can do "Mark As Junk" ten do it - I am "training" my Thunderbird to recognise spam and it gets rid of 90% of it now.

Email addresses are collected by computer systems of spammers, then those addresses are used to send e-mail out to other people. The e-mail header can be forged, so that it appears to the end user that the mail has been sent from themselves.

According to my spam mail filter 81% (43,604 messages) of my e-mail was identified as being spam. There is little that can be done, though e-mail software (like Thunderbird) can be trained to recognise spam, and you can use commercial mail filters such as Clear My Mail, to filter out unwanted e-mail.
Many ISPs are also trying to filter out as much spam as possible, but things will get through. So ignore the messages, use e-mail software that will try to recognise spam, and if you get a lot of e-mail, invest in a commercial spam filter service.
