Help, my laptop won't charge

I know that the charger works and I think it's a problem with the connection - the pin I assume. If I plug int the charger it doesn't charge unless I wiggle it arond to get it in the right position and then hold it there. This is clearly not ideal! I was wondering if this sounds like an expensive repair job? The laptop is a couple of years old and wasn't expensive and I'm wondering whether I would be best to just replace it, or is it worth taking it somewhere, and if so where?

All help, very, very much apreciated

dh's laptop does this,it does sound like the connecting pin has worn loose.Dh usually solders his back on-whole laptop needs taking apart for that though and it works fine for a bit(he should get a new one,hes been soldering it together for a yr!).just have to be careful not to knock the power cable!
I wouldn't think it would cost alot-local puter repair shop if you dont want to buy a new one.

Thank you, I will call around and see how much that might cost.

In the meantime, if you don't want to sit there holding it in while it charges, try wedging a rubber between the connector & the desk. I've had a rubber holding the scart cable in place on the playroom TV for about three years now....

this sounds like a common issue with Dells from about 2-3 years ago... one option would be to take the unit apart and replace the bad connector.. this should only cost about £10 max

This has happened to me in the past but it was actually the pin from the connecting lead that was faulty not the connector port in the laptop. I had to get a new charger. Have you borrowed someone else's charger or tried yours in another laptop to definetly know which is at fault?

Thanks everyone, I've ordered a new charger to see if maybe that's the problem, if not then I shall face the minefield of ordering a new one

This happened to mine and on getting an engineer to check it over it turned out the connector thingy is attached to the motherboard so it meant the computer would be costly to repair.

I claimed on my household insurance who provided me with a brand new laptop!
