i'm currently tied into 18 month contract with T-mobile with 12 months left. if all goes through we're moving to new village where there is zero reception except on orange network. rely on my mobile a lot and don't want to be paying for a service that isn't being provided IYSWIM. can't afford to run two contracts. do you think i can end my contract? can i just stop dd payments? all advice welcome

I got into very hot water when I tried to end my contract with a certain phone company a couple of years back.... and that was at the end of the 12 month contract!!! You will have to read the small print on how to end your contract in the terms and conditions as most mobile companies make it financially inconvenient to end a contract before it reaches it natural expiration date.

I did as stated in my terms and conditions, however, by giving them notice in writing that I was not extending the contract at the end of the 12 months (giving 28 days notice it was back then) and they just said they never received my letter (you couldn't send recorded delivery as the address was a PO Box) so since they never got my letter, they were extending the contract. If I then wanted to cancel the new contract, I would owe them full cost of the phone for the rest of the new 12 month contract they had taken out on my behalf. I had to take my case to a solicitor and everything!!! It was a nightmare.

Fingers crossed T-mobile aren't so difficult to deal with. Good luck - but first thing is to read the terms and conditions as you might find you owe them 12 months of payment and maybe even a cancellation fee.... Yikes!

Sorry - I guess thats not what you wanna hear but I just don't want you getting into the situation I was in

thanks angel! part of the problem is i've been with them for years and have no idea of the actual terms and conditions of the contract now. guess i'll have to just hone them and see what they say. thanks for your help!

you do not have much legal ground here as it is not their fault you moved and have no reception...

... you will be asked to front up the remaining months line rental to be released but may be able to negociate a lesser amount if you get a nice person on the line..

Another option is to goto somewhere like Carphone Warehouse and see if they can assist if you buy a contract with them for a provider that works for you... this may also get you some money off the buyout using their influence
