I can't find the product key anywhere on my tower? Any ideas to resume normal service would be good. Thanks

Where did you get your computer from? Think you will need to contact them to get 'legal'

I bought it in england and I know live in Spain. It's a really old computer. windows asked me to validate it and the internet crashed and it's been sending me the same message ever since. Oh well, I have had my on a laptop anyway

As I remember, older versions of Windows (I'ma Linux user and haven't installed anything newer than W98) had the product code on the front cover of the installation guide. Newer versions, like XP, seem to have it on a sticker.

Has this computer been upgraded from 98 to XP in the past, by any chance? If so, have a rootle around the XP stuff and see if the code is lurking there. If not, beware, as Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) can start getting unpleasant if thwarted. A fresh copy of XP can be had quite cheaply on eBay, though.

Or just leave the Dark Side and join us in Linux land ... www.ubuntu.com

Thanks Uber, no it is genuine xp, not been upgraded and is about five years old. I am being inundated with messages from WGA at the moment. There should be a sticker on the tower but I can't find it. I think I am just going to buy a new computer. Will take a look at your link, thanks.
