Anyone use Kerridge- bank reconciliation

I have started a new job today. I need to bank account reconciliations on kerridge.
I was told that if you start reconciling the bank account you need to clear it all off before exiting and have to start all over again.

Can you exit and leave it half done without posting?

I am glad I do not bank at your bank...

I would suggest that you ask someone at the bank that has the knowledge... this is probably the safest option all around... if you ask someone here and get it wrong it's not going to look good to your boss...

That was unecessarily rude

I don't work for a bank. I work for a car dealership and kerridge is their accounts package , which I have never used before and have had virtually no training on. I started the job yesterday.
Other accounts packages I have used allow you to store a reconciliation without finishing it.
Kerridge doesn't seem to allow this, everytime I have to come out to make a new entry I have to start the reconciliation from the beginning, which is a huge waste of time.

It was never meant to sound rude.. I just think you would be better to ask someone else who uses that package working in the same company as you..

just common sense... also would save you some time

Christy - I don't use Kerridge but I have used others that won't allow you to part reconcile. Can you reconcile to a certain date, for instance the 15th of the month and then pick it up the following day - or, as opinionateddad suggests ask your boss what your predecessor used to do?
Some accounts packages are notoriously bad at bank recs but one thing you may be able to do is export the data to an excel sheet and manually reconcile it thus allowing you to do it more quickly on the actual programme.

If you run a test company on the package have a go from that.

If I had someone to ask I would have asked!
It's a very small company and noone really to ask. The help menu isn't very good either.

My predecessor told me I can't export to excel either!

I was going to do a page at a time, but it isn't proving very pratical at the moment.

I don't think you have any choice other than

a) once a month go in early and stay until you reconcile it - if it is a small company it shouldn't take that long really

b) perform reconciliations once a week instead, that way your data is less and will only take you a couple of hours

Are you also responsible for all the data input, if so, it should reconcile immediately unless the data inputted is wrong or the bank has errored (which happens quite often), so one way to speed it up would be to take longer over inputting and doublechecking figures before you post transactions.

With a car dealership the transactions should be of higher value instead of high quantity so I can't understand why it would take longer than a day.

or of course you could contact the kerridge accounts package helpline/ troubleshooter (bound to be one) and ask but they may charge you.

I used to use a package called DEMA which was very difficult to rec and so we ended up keeping separate cashbook accounts on excel and reconciling the normal way (far easier), just exporting nominal amounts into the accounting package on a weekly basis.

Christywhisty · 06/01/2008 17:51

Hi Wisteria, thanks for your help

I spoke to the accountant (he his private practise, doesn't work for company) and he said it would be a good idea to go on a training course in a few months time, when I have had a chance to get used to the system.

I had about 15 years experience on my previous package (SUN) so getting a bit frustrated that what seemed so easy on that, seems to not so easy on Kerridge iYSWIM

I am going to try and reconcile as they come in on a weekly basis, but there are a few items missing and it's a bit trial and error trying to find them, but I am getting there

It's only been 3 days and I am sure I will get used to it. Also I worked for a charity before, so a car dealership is a very different culture

I don't think it matters how much experience you have tbh - new accounts packages are a nightmare and they all come with glitches of their own!

We used to joke that DEMA was 'made wrong'

It's early days and you'll still be back tracking over others' mistakes and errors for a while; am sure as soon as you get used to it you'll be fine. It's great that they're willing to send you on a course though!

You can't help feeling like a bit of a 'twonk' at times though can you as other people don't realise how hard it is to learn a new system!
