Anyone know?

I am using my namechange that I use if I think xp could be checking up on me, as he set the pc up for me and am just wondering if he's put something on here?

Hope not.

I doubt it. Tracking cookies are little files that you sometimes get from sites you visit and they deposit little spies in your pc - the usual symptom is that you get unwanted interference in the form of spam for instance.

That's the science bit, as far as I know.

You can also download free software to i.d. and eradicate them. Some are a bit stickier than others, though.

I have no doubt someone will be along to say "Pan, that is perfect utter rubbish!

Threadworm · 28/12/2007 16:07

Sorry my answer wasn't really helpful! I thought someone more knowledgeable than me would chip in (chocolate chip in?). I think all sorts of websites can leave tracking cookies, can't they? Some are completely benign, some are spying. I wouldn't think there was any reason to suppose it was to do with your dh.

mulledwinestein · 28/12/2007 16:07

are you normally this paranoid?

Pan · 28/12/2007 16:08

I have heard they can also take over your pc and render it inoperable.

They also never put the bin out, and leave damp towels on the bed.

cece · 28/12/2007 16:08

Our Norton picks these up too, they are left on your computer after you visit 'infected' websites. Or at least that what I thought they were

MrsPotatoHead · 28/12/2007 16:12

Thanks for the info.

I'm not paranoid I don't think, but previous behaviour by my X involving tremendous invasion of privacy, particularly via pc and email, has made me a bit wary.
