Do you think this email is genuine?

I have a yahoo mail account and today received this email. It’s entitled “final notice” but I’ve not had any previous emails on this topic.

When I clicked on the link it asked for my password - as you can see from the photo, in the link “password” seems to be spelt “passvvord”.

Do you think this is some kind of scam? So far I have not given my password in the link. I don’t want my yahoo account deactivated though, if this email is genuinely from yahoo.

Definitely a scam.

LemonMuffins · 13/01/2022 08:39

It's definitely not legit and you were mad to click on anything.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 13/01/2022 08:39

It’s fake. Look at the URL that it’s sending you to in the second picture - it’s not Yahoo; it’s a fake landing page someone has badly set up on Weebly (a free website designer).

DropYourSword · 13/01/2022 08:40

No. There is absolutely nothing about that email that looks genuine!!

LIZS · 13/01/2022 08:40

Scam

Scam

Never follow a link like that in an email. If you want to check into your Yahoo account then do so in a separate browser and if you don't have it already set up two factor authentication.

lemonpi · 13/01/2022 08:48

Thank you for the replies. I clicked on the link but did not fill it in. Do you think just clicking on it will have done any harm?

Scam.

If ever in doubt about a message like that, close the browser, and access the account directly from a new session. Anything official that requires attention will also be available from the website directly.

lemonpi · 13/01/2022 08:56

Thank you. I was already logged into my yahoo account - it’s on my phone and I’m permanently logged in, so it’s not that I didn’t have access to my mail. This email was in my yahoo mail, along with genuine emails from other people.

It's absolutely a scam - look at the date it gives "Thursday! January" 😂

SoupDragon · 13/01/2022 09:00

I always look for poor English in these sorts of emails.

lemonpi · 13/01/2022 09:03

@SoupDragon Good point! 😂 Blush (Only thing I can say in my defence for not noticing that is that I’ve been awake since 4am!)

The only risk is by clicking on the link they know the email account is valid one and that the person may be suggestible to clicking on random links.

lemonpi · 13/01/2022 09:44

@Mouseonmychair Thanks for your reply. Normally I don’t click on random links, e.g. ones purporting to be from my bank. Somehow this one had me unsure, but I will be more on my guard now!

Look at the web address. It's Weebly!

Never click on anything.
