I work from home for myself and need to make some changes

I have a laptop but want to buy two additional screens and they all need to show different things so not just mirror. How do I do this?

Or do I need to replace laptop with a desktop and buy 3 monitors?

Clueless.

I don't think a webcam will need an HDMI port?

That should just use a normal USB.

Is your current webcam on your laptop broken? If not, I still just use my laptop webcam and that's fine - I just have it raised up on books so it's the right height.

A dock makes life easy, imo - lots of ports for monitors, keyboard, mouse, headset, external hard drives, printer, flashing Xmas tree...Grin

My work provides one as standard with our laptops. The other good thing is you can lock the laptop to the dock, and then lock the dock to your desk if security is an issue.

I have laptop plus one extra screen. The laptop is on a stand to make it taller and I use the webcam & speakers of that for zoom calls. Then one bigs screen on a HDMI is enough for email and chat and docs. And I have a separate keyboard and mouse too.

Definitely agree it's easier Errol! I am just too much of a cheapskate honestly, and don't need to move my laptop much so the wires don't bother me.

@Gladioli23 there is a webcam on my laptop but it is such poor quality and won't be suitable for the big presentation I have coming up!. I've just looked and some very good Logitech ones for not much. It will be worth it!

We need to know the exact model of computer you have to be sure what will work.... Not all USB C ports support video, and the ones that do support different formats.

If you have a thunderbolt 3 you should be able to daisy chain two 4k USBC monitors without any additional hubs etc. Thunderbolt 2 only supports 2 QHD or 1 4K monitor.

@FixTheBone thank you. I've checked and I think mine is the basic charging usb-c port. So I have to rethink if this laptop will be suitable.
I think I need a new desktop or laptop!

Another option may be to go for an ultrawide type monitor - one that's essentially two widescreens stuck together

32:9 are twice as wide as a normal monitor, but not that common, running at 5120x1440 (DQHD) starting around £850.

slightly less wide are WQHD or WQHD+ running at 3440x1440 pixels (21:9) and 3840x1600 (12:5) respectively.

Just check the maximum resolution output on your HDMI or Displayport

Thanks. It's so flipping complicated!
I'm going for 2 or 3 22" monitors as I know I can work the space flexibly with those.
My laptop has 1 hdmi, 1 usb-c (1st gen) Lenovo ideapad 320S
Will a dock like this work for 1 additional screen? So I plug one into laptop hdmi and another into this adaptor? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZVKTP53/ref=cmswwemrrmtdpp_RZ1JSM8428G0701BT61S

Or if I start afresh with a new desktop (small form ideally) would that run the adaptor if needed? Or is it then down to having a dedicated graphics card for 3 monitors? It gets expensive when start adding graphics cards etc and this would rule out the dell optiplex range for example
