I need to replace one that I have. Good sound is important to me but I don’t know what I’m looking for to make sure it has good sound? The Tv I’m replacing I went into store to get advice and walked out with a sound bar which was crap. There are some sales so max I want to spend is £500. Current one is 44 inches which is small in my front room plus my eye sight isn’t the best! Can anyone help me work out what I’m looking for please so I don’t make another mistake?

Yes having searched the bigger TV’s and looked at the prices I realise £500 won’t get much for a big TV Blush

What’s an OLED then? I saw it mentioned on some. I ‘could’ spend more on one but I have sways made so many mistakes with things like this that I’m reluctant to. I have many had LG the last 10 years and I’m happy with them but doesn’t mean another brand isn’t better??

@CMSnightmare

I was just looking at a Philips one on ao.com and one review said it didn’t support Disney plus… nothing in the spec would suggest it doesn’t? So that is what I mean by I don’t want to buy the wrong one!

It needs to be compatible with sky, Netflix, prime, Disney plus. Is of iPlayer a bonus but not essential.

We have a Philips ambilight TV and it has the Disney+ app. It's a Android smart TV if that makes any difference.

@ffscovid yes that’s the one o have been looking at! Maybe that person had an issue just themselves. Is it a good tv?

@ffscovid if you are at home, any chance you could measure the distance from the outer edge of one foot to outer edge of the other for me? Just so I can see if it will fit on my stand as it is? That is the only measurement I can’t find

@comeundone

Go to richer sounds if you have one near enough. They repaired our TV (twice) when it broke after five years, both times something simple but really good customer service in comparison to other appliances we've had.
Only a comment about Richer Sounds service. We bought several HiFi components a few years ago, and the salesperson mentioned insurance.... No! We weren't interested we said. He said 'well if you don't need to use it within 5 years we will refund ALL of the cost. Five years and two weeks later I called them not expecting a result. But they were as true as their word and we got the whole lot back. If you can get to a store you will get excellent service, no 'hard sell', no palming you off with the end of a range so they can get newer stock in. All in all one of the best retailers we have EVER used.

@loopylindi don’t have them near us sadly.

I’ve narrowed it down to these 3, can anyone tell me if there is much of a difference other than price? I have looked at processor, etc

Philips 55pus7956 - I really like the back lights as I have to have a lamp on to watch tv due to my eye sight but not sure if that is enough of a reason to get it.

Lg55up78006lb - £468
Lg60up80006lr - £598 - can’t work out what makes i better than the cheaper one??

We have ours wall-mounted so can't measure the stand I'm afraid (and only have the 43" anyway).

Yes, very happy with it.

CMSnightmare · 31/12/2021 13:52

@ffscovid no worries about measurements I think I found it on a different website. I can’t decide on that one or the cheaper LG I mentioned! We have sky so I don’t know if that makes a difference?

The second LG is 60 inch, which is why it's more expensive.

I think £500-700 is a decent amount to spend on a TV, especially if it's not going to be wall mounted.

The extra money on getting one that's very slim makes a big difference when hanging it flat to a wall....

Costco have the LG OLED 55CX for £860, which is a lot, but it's a fantastic TV, it might be worth looking somewhere like currys where they have the TVs on display to appreciate just how good OLED is.

FixTheBone · 01/01/2022 10:43

Re: above - I meant to say £860 is a lot compared to your budget, but a very good price for an LG OLED.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 01/01/2022 11:08

We have recently bought an Ambilight and we do like the Ambilight feature - it looks good from an aesthetic point of view and makes viewing more immersive even though our TV is relatively small.

Not so keen on the navigation of the TV and style of TV guide but it's not so bad as to be unliveable with.
