dd is upstairs trying to make the Charlie and Lola website work but she is left-handed and using a two-button mouse

it is not going well for her

please can we alter it?

ds2 is left handed, but just uses the mouse with his right hand.

not really an option; she has fine motor difficulties and her right hand is worse for this

it's a whacking big special-issue mouse as it is

ds1 had dreadful fine motor problems (still no pencil grip at all aged 8, and when we started him on a mouse he couldn't hold a pencil at all, not even to scribble) and was not left or right handed. We used the massive big trackball from Inclusive Technology (not the yellow and blue kids one- it wasn't out then, although that looks good too- but the grey one with a big red trackball) to teach him, he then graduated onto a mouse (RH). The reason I would say to try and get somewhere with a RH mouse is that when she goes to school they'll be set up that way and it's just easier to be able to access technology in the same way as everyone else (speaking from ds1's experience).

The nice thing about the trackball is it can be set to click and hold without physcially having to do it iyswim. That really helped ds12 learn to move it without getting too frustrated. DS1 now uses a standard one button mac mouse easily, and a two button mouse with some more difficulties.

I am right handed but use a mouse with my left hand (to stop RSI). Can she just do that?

yurt1 · 29/11/2007 12:51

this is what we used although check out the other products, there's lots more choice on there now. Inclusive technology are incredibly helpful.

oh if you ring them they'll probably be able to tell you the answer to your original question as well.

What's the problem, does she click the wrong button? (That's ds1's problem when using a 2 button mouse).

frothykindofadrink · 29/11/2007 14:50

problem is that she can't click and drag at the same time

actually yurt that mouse looks v similar to the one she uses at school

and it says mac compatible

yep the thing I linked to is mac compatible (used it with one, so can vouch for that)
