The thing you hold when playing on the Xbox - with no wires - controller?

All above board - we (i.e. dh) bought dd a pink one of these things whilst in NY; foolishly thinking it would be a case of batteries in and off you go. Not so, the X in the middle is flashing but the box at the back of the telly doesn't appear to be 'reading' it. Has anyone had any experience of this and been able to fix the problem? TIA
I'm sure it is very apparent that I have absolutley no idea about such things

Does it have something to do with being from the states? I know it's not plugged in, but maybe something to do with the wattage on american appliances?

saythatagain · 20/11/2007 14:13

That was the first thing I said (shouted!) to dh but, as its not electrical in the traditional way, it shouldn't be a problem...allegedly

yes it's probably not compatible with a uk machine

harleyd · 20/11/2007 14:16

ok stupid question but are the batteries new?

is the green light on the control going round the full circle and flashing, or just flashing in one segment

Flame · 20/11/2007 14:17

I would say probably not compatible. If the light is going round then it is searching for an xbox to bond with, but never finds one

ArmadilloDaMan · 20/11/2007 14:17

It may not be compatible with uk machine as it's american (assuming machine is from uk).

Don't understand it exactly but it's similar to the region 1 and 2 thing on DVDs.

saythatagain · 20/11/2007 14:28

The green light is flashing - all sections, so I would agree that its trying to find the Xbox; just not ours! Thing is, dh (believe it or not) is very well aware of all that US/UK thing but said it wouldn't be a problem . Are there any tips on how to 'make it work' please?

mine does it sometimes if the batteries are low

not sure about the compatibility thing

no other ideas here, sorry

harleyd · 20/11/2007 14:31

is the light on at all on the xbox? red or green?

saythatagain · 20/11/2007 14:41

Yes, the xbox is on and by using the 'regular' controller everything works just fine and dandy. The pink one just flashes green, no red. It looks so pretty too!

Flame · 20/11/2007 14:44

No way that I know

saythatagain · 20/11/2007 14:49

Oh b***cks; I thought that would be the outcome. Thanks anyway.

I assume it's a 360 and not the original XBox. In which case try the following...

See that small button on the top of the controller, just beside the hologram? Press that in along with the round button beside the memory ports on the 360 console itself.

You should see the green circle on both console and controller going around. It should, in theory, settle on one quarter which gives you your player number (1 if you're playing alone).

A U.S or U.K pad won't make a lick of difference as it's nothing to do with the display. I've imported plenty of pads from Japan in the past.

Give me a shout if you have any bother.

saythatagain · 21/11/2007 11:34

Thank you for that Criple; I've forwarded it to my dh. I'll post again with the outcome.

Spoke to my bloke in the know (not DH, he was useless ) and he agrees with Criple

saythatagain · 22/11/2007 12:50

Please accept this virtual gold star from saythatagain to criple and flame!
Thanks awfully girls. Dh was impressed too but added that he would have known what to do had he looked at the instruction booklet but that was all left in NY!

Not a problem, I'm a bit of a videogame nut so stuff like this comes natural.
