Graphic Design and Video Editing Software - cheap / free?

I want it all!

I want two pieces of software, one for graphic design, one for video editing, for hobby purposes. I want them to be very simple to use, very good, and FREE! No watermarks or other obvious signs of unprofessionalism!

What can you recommend?

I accept I probably can't have it all, but I have to say that I'd like to have a similar experience to that which I have had with music production software. I have Reaper, which is very good - you can download it for free and the free version seems to be full of more than enough features, if not all, then you can "upgrade" to a paid version later on (which I did - paying a one off £50).

if you have windows 10, it comes with Video Editor, have you tried that?

Graphic design: GIMP for raster based imagery or Inkscape for vector based. Steep learning curve but lots and lots of help available online.

Yes and No. Is it good and feature rich? I am ideally looking for something reasonably close to pro level, or a lightweight version of something that I can pay to upgrade to a feature rich version later on if I get on with the software?

@JediGnot,

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't describe Video Editor as a professional piece of s/w. Why not give it a go and see if it's any good for you?

I might, but I'd rather use a piece of software that can grow with me, not one that is fine for three months then I have to start from scratch with something else due to lack of functionality.
