DS(13) has SN and loses stuff frequently (he forgets he has it in his hands and puts it down to do something or pick stuff up). Lost remotes are literally the bane of my life.

He likes to watch you tube in his bedroom and has an old tv. he has 2 old phones, one of which he can usually but not always find. He wont tell me he has lost stuff he'd rather suffer I have to guess, by then it could be anywhere in the house, or car, or random book on his bookshelf😖🙄🤣.

He has had chromecast which was an alright system for a while, but so far 2 have gone for chop, suddenly. Working to not working overnight😖😖😖. I suspect he is doing something but God knows what because he hasn't a clue and Google have spent 4 hours being beyond useless. The second one is now refunded.
He had an early generation fire stick that was ok but he lost the remote regularly and it was too small to be easily found.
(His kindle is currently MIA, but that will probably turn up at some point)

I'm now wondering if tech can come to the rescue. I'm wondering whether the Alexa system can run voice activated style off a dot that I could glue with super strength glue to his bedside table and I can hide the remote. But I have no experience of the Alexa system and whether it is able to do this. Or whether I would be better replacing the old tv with something that doesnt need a wretched remote and connects itself to the internet

Any advice thats helps me avoid hunting phones and remotes would be very gratefully appreciated.

Smart TV would work, the slight issue is that the apps (YouTube Netflix etc) will get fewer updates as the TV gets older until they stop working, and it's unlikely to get new apps if and when they're released.

My daughter has a hisense TV that can be controlled by alexa, although we're a Google home setup so I haven't tried it.

The other thing I have is a harmony remote which replaces lots of remotes, but can also be used through an app on any phone or tablet.

To clarify, yes you can run things voice activated, but it gets a bit hit and miss once you start trying to go from 'play Netflix on my tv' to advanced commands such as 'play the next episode of Wanda vision on Disney plus'

Thank you!. This got buried in the threads I'm on and just found it!!
So if your using Alexa can you use or phone or does it need to be a dot or something?

You can install the alexa app on your phone, its already on the fire tablets, and since the latest update, accessible by a shortcut icon on the lock / home screen.

I tend to use my google mini / google audio smart speakers a lot more than my phone (which would also work) as its completely hands free.
