Google Meet keeps kicking us out - help!

I have no idea if anyone can help but this is starting to get really frustrating now.

Initially we were having issues with our internet connection so assumed that was causing us to repeatedly lose the connection to the meet. But the internet issue has now been fixed.

We live rurally, and had to pay to install wireless broadband from Quickline. This runs at 10mbps. (we still have the BT as a back up, it's 1.5mps so utterly pointless)

We log into Google meets for school and the longest we can maintain a connection is 5 mins and then it cuts off.
We seem to have better success with an afternoon 1-1 session than we do the class sessions in the morning.

I'm really not very tech minded at all and have no idea how to troubleshoot this.

Does the line actually run at 10mbps, or is that what you’re paying up to?

If you Google internet speed test, Google will offer you a speed test. What does that say?

Meets recommends an upload speed of 3.2 mbps and a download speed of 2.6 mbps for 1 to 1 video calls, and at least 3.4 mbps for 6 or more people, so you might find you’re actually getting a speed somewhere between the two...

There are other things you can try, like disabling Quality of Service settings on your router as they are inbuilt into Meet; and changing DNS settings, but speed is the issue 99% of the time so I’d report back with the speed test results first.

(Do the speed test wirelessly if that’s how you’re doing the Meets, and wherever you usually do them)

Thanks @SendMeHome

Speed test wireslessly is showing as high as download of 11.1mbps at the moment, and upload of 4.39 so that's really good.

Service provider today talked me through a couple of things, the 5ghz band was disabled and as we are working in the room with the router they suggested we enable and use that. A friend also suggested using Google Chrome instead of Firefox.
We have just successfully done two separate half hour meets, one of which had 8 participants - so fingers crossed we've hit a magic combination.

Thank you for your response and suggestions.

Ah thats good news!

Chrome is definitely a lot better than Firefox most of the time, a bit battery hungry but it just works better.

Glad that you’re sorted Smile
