Mac Air help

I am thinking of buying my dd the new Mac air that costs £999. She is doing her GCSE's and we would hope this would last her through a levels and into the beginning of university. I am utterly useless at ict. Would 8gb be enough for her? Is the AppleCare worth £209 ? I am assuming I need to buy word PowerPoint etc for it? She has an iPhone so I'm told it will pair up? Thanks

The syncing between the MacBook and iPhone is great. I use the notes app a lot and if I type something out on my MacBook it's almost instantly on my iPhone and vice versa. All my text messages and iMessages come through on my MacBook too which is handy. I use iCloud Drive and all my files sync flawlessly between both devices. I think 8GB should be fine, I've got last years MacBook Air and it's got 8GB Ram and it's been absolutely fine and that's with some light video editing. I can't help with powerpoint etc as I don't know much about it. Apple has "pages" which I think is the equivalent of word and I use that sometimes, but you can buy Word and powerpoint if that's what she uses.

I had an apple air for work and loved it. I only had it for a year and a half but had a feeling that it may not have lasted that much longer.

I bought one recently. My tech friend suggested the next model up for the slightly better processor.

she might be entitled to educational discount - phone apple and ask. They do like to entice students in.

My last MacBook lasted 10 years! I'm hoping this one does too...

Apple care is basically an extended warranty... I didn't buy it but I knew worst case I could afford to replace my laptop.

Do factor in cost of buying (unless school provides it) Office... if she uses Word/ powerpoint at school then switching to Apple versions (pages/ keynote) will be hard.

I'm quite tech savvy and had intended to do that but I've found it too difficult.

Hi there, I think Mac is nice, but sometimes it is hard to accustom to it. I know it from my experience. Anyway, you should buy the new Mac air.
