I have to make a decision today for my new job !
Most people use Mac as it’s a
Creative company - I used one years ago and found it a bit confusing to be honest .
My friend says it’s way better and I will get used To it quickly .
Don’t want to make a mistake.
Should I play safe with what I am used to ?
Any advice ?

I find a Macbook a million times less stressful to use than the Windows PCs I had until a few years ago.

Also like the way it seamlessly merges with my phone.

I'm not sure, but I'd assume having the same set-up as your colleagues might make remote interaction much easier? (And who knows how much longer we'll be doing that?)

Macbookss have probably evolved since the last time you tried one. I'd switch - but get the most up to date model, then you'll be good for years to come.

PoulePouletteEternellement vice versa for me and I have both - horses for courses Smile

Midlifemission Any particular programs you're using?

I've spent a large piece of my working life as a Windows domain, network and desktop technical person.

I moved over to Macs in 2006. They spend so little time pissing me off, it's such a breath of fresh air after a work day.

It doesn't take long at all to get the hang of it. When I first got one, the biggest difficulty was remembering that I could just try the most obvious possible thing to get something done, and it would 99% of the time work.

The new MacBook Air is a phenomenal piece of work, faster than the current top-of-the-line MacBook Pro 16", and silent. Great timing for making the jump!

Thanks for the replies - I have said yes to the MacBook Air - not sure if it will be brand new but hopefully it will be decent !
I will mainly work in PowerPoint and word .
With Zoom and Slack for team interaction .

Hopefully it will be easy enough

In that case Midlifemission you'll have no problem using the first three. I know nuffink about Slack.

Midlifemission · 28/11/2020 13:53

Thanks @Mutunus Slack is easy just messaging and uploading documents etc .
Hopefully I will soon be as positive as everyone seems to be who uses Mac versus windows .
Thanks

Getting used to cmd-c and cmd-v for copy and paste is by far the hardest part. @ and " is the second hardest. Cmd-o for Open this thing, instead of pressing Enter which renames is probably third.
Once you're used to those you're golden.

And then you can get into cmd-w (close window), cmd-q (quit app), cmd-h (hide window), cmd-space (search for anything and open it), defining hot corners for Mission Control, putting apps/docs/folders on the Dock, and suddenly working on things becomes slick.

There's a bit of acclimatisation involved but it's well worth the effort IMO. Apple integration is seamless and I like the fact they support their devices generally much longer than other manufacturers for software upgrades.

I moved to a MacBook relatively recently - I adore my MacBook and would not go back to a windows system if you paid me. Interesting though that your colleagues primarily use power point and word - would have thought they'd find keynote easier if you're all on iOS (I know i find it far superior).
