Help me with an inkjet printer please!

I'm looking for a printer but am a bit overwhelmed by the options and the varying reviews.

I mainly need it for printing out things like return labels, and the odd few pages of plain text, but also have in mind a one-off project of printing out quite a lot of colour photos to have framed.

So it needs to be good enough quality to print good colour photos, and also return labels that scan properly. But apart from these things I'll use it quite rarely, so I don't want to spend £££. I also don't want to spend a lot on the ink, if it can be avoided.

Can anyone recommend a printer for me? TIA.

I'd look at a mono printer and sending the pictures to be printed or take them to your local print shop.

I've got a hp Deskjet and instant ink. I bought it for £40 in April to print school work off and I'm still in however many free months I got so haven't paid anything for my ink yet.

We have just bought a mono laser printer. It's quiet and very quick. 1.5k pages per ink cartridge.

I'll get photos printed professionally.

I thought about sending my pictures to be printed/going to a print shop, but it's a lot of photos I want printed and it might be prohibitively expensive professionally.

Thanks all.

The trouble with inkjet printers is that they need to be used often or the print head dries up and it usually costs more than the printer did to replace. On the other hand, if you use them a lot it costs a fortune in ink.

Getting photos printed in bulk isn't that expensive and the results are usually far superior to those done at home. If they aren't, you can send them back to be redone.

I would agree that a B&W laser with good paper is best for accurate scanning.

For colour prints have a look at these

www.freephotoprinting.co.uk/

www.tescophoto.com/photo-prints.html from 7p each

Aldi prints photos from 8p each

Local print shops might negotiate for bulk.

Regarding ink costs. I'm on HP's Instant Ink scheme at £1.99 a month.
I had two sets of cartridges in a year (delivered to my door) which would have retailed at £44 so their system works for me.
