I'm looking for a wireless colour laser printer.
Just that really.

We have an epson workforce which is a printer, scanner, copier and fax I think.
Works fine, ink is expensive.
Make sure whichever one you get has separate cartridges for each colour otherwise you end up replacing before they're truly empty.

They are all roughly the same - very few companies make the central engine.

Have an HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M477FDW (try saying that three times fast). Probably overkill compared to what I need but it works very well and is much faster (particularly scanning) than the 10 year old inkjet it replaced. Replacement toners are not cheap, but I'm still on the originals supplied with the machine after 18 months (not a high volume user).

Disclaimer: Used to work for another bit of HP, but recommended in spite of that.

@allcdtaylornats

You're right. Fairly sure that Canon does the engines in HP printers.

Mummyonline · 08/07/2020 11:35

HP LaserJet looks great but I can't quite justify the £550.
SorryIasked, Which Epson Workforce did you get? They seem fairly economical. Where did you get it from? Does it take up much room?

We're have the WF2750 which I think is probably the previous model of this one
Its not huge, but we've got it on a stand so can store stuff underneath. Our desk has drawers to one side and the printer is about the same width as the drawers ((helpful!))

Why laser jet? because I'm ignorant about printers and could do with one..l

We've had a Samsung C410 colour laser for about 5 years. Not the fastest in the world, but it prints from our phones. Good preview so you can remove pages and fairly cheap toner.

Laser printers use toner and are ideal for high volume printing. They are the usual choice for use in an office.

Inkjets use ink and are best for low volume printing. They are the usual choice for home use.

Some people complain that the ink in an inkjet printer dries up and clogs it if you only use the printer occasionally but I've never experienced this problem myself.

For most purposes there is little to choose between laser printers and inkjets in terms of print quality. However, inkjets are better for high quality photos and complex images.

Laser printers are generally faster than inkjets, although this only really matters if you are printing large volumes.

Inkjets are smaller and lighter than laser printers, can handle a wider variety of paper types and, unlike laser printers, don't need to warm up when you turn them on.

Laser printers are more expensive to buy but running costs are lower.

Laser printing doesn't run. This comes in handy when you're reading a eulogy and dripping.

TW2013 · 09/07/2020 08:18

We have a Canon i-sensys. Although it costs more initially and the toner isn't cheap, with two adults and three children working from home it has already saved ££££ in therapy bills. You tell it to print and ... it prints. A concept that numerous inkjets over many years just failed to grasp.

Mumdiva99 · 09/07/2020 08:24

I have a wireless 3 in one but ink. Had it 3 years. It's great. Epsom xp640. Sits on top of a filing cabinet in the bedroom prints from devices all over the house. We have printed plenty over lockdown (2 adults and 3 kids home schooling) only topped up jnk once

Although lots of people these days buy printers with a monthly fee and get ink sent whenever they are running low.

Thank you @prh47bridge

Lexmark MC2535 is a good all-round colour scanner printer copier. Build quality is very good as well.
