What hardware do I want?

I have a very old, very large laptop that needs replacing.
.

I would like something much smaller and lighter that I can transport easily, and has a 'seperate' keyboard as opposed to an iPad that has the keyboard on the screen.
.
It needs to be compatible with Google drive/slides etc AND Word/Teams etc.
.
I need to use it for meetings (zoom/similar) so microphone/camera required.
.
Internet.
.
Will be using for work and personal.

What should I get? Absolutely clueless. £500 budget but could increase if I'm way off on pricing structure of such things.

The most important thing is that the main storage should be an SSD (solid state disk), not a mechanical hard disk.

The processor should be at least a Core i3, not a Celeron or Pentium. I couldn't comment on AMD processors.

RAM should be at least 8GB.

£500 should get you something decent, especially if you are prepared to buy from ebay. My personal recommendation would be a suitable Dell Latitude. In my experience the Latitude models will withstand a fair amount of mistreatment.

This one looks pretty decent for £475 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Latitude-5400-Laptop-256GB-SSD-Intel-i5-8350U-16GB-RAM-Win-10/293636435468

My main caveat is that when I've bought Latitudes on ebay, the warranty always seems to be much shorter than advertised. I don;t usually worry too much about the warranty on a Latitude.

Don't forget a productivity package. Open Office / Libreoffice are very good and free - although donatations are gratefully received. Microsoft office will need to be paid for.
I always factor in backup as well. Either external hard drive or a couple of memory sticks.

Thank you both. A little more detailed than I was expecting and have no clue what any of it means but sure it is helpful 😂

Can you just tell me what to buy? 😂

From Argos.

Comes with Norton Antivirus if that's important to you.
No disrespect to CruelAndUnusualParenting but you shouldn't have any warranty woes should problems arise.
