Replace phone or phone battery?

I have a Samsung S7 Edge, bought when it was fairly new to the market (I'm guessing 2017). There's a black spot on one edge of the screen, which I think is dead pixels, but it's been there for a while and doesn't really bother me. Samsung has recently stopped support for this model.

The phone works fine though it has become slightly slow to respond. The battery however seems to be on its last legs - takes hours to charge, even when switched off, and loses charge really quickly. I got a GBP25 (converted) cost estimate to replace the battery - not an original Samsung battery, but the vendor is a reputed chain in my part of the world, so should do a decent job hopefully.

In the current pandemic, we're trying to conserve cash. So while I can afford a new phone, I'm trying to postpone big expenses. My husband thinks this is false economy and I should just replace the phone (which phone, that will be another threadSmile). Would welcome opinions.

You don't mention how much you use your phone and rely on it so that should be a consideration.

If you rarely use it then I'd just change the battery for £25. However, if you are a heavy user, then the age and lack of ongoing support by the manufacturer would steer me to replacing the phone.

I am a fairly heavy user, less for phone calls, more for netsurfing, social media and netflix. Not sure how to put a number on it though. New phone it is then, thanks for your suggestion!
