iPod Classic

Hi

My Dad has an iPod classic still working perfectly no issues with it. However the aux cable to his DAB radio which he used to connect his iPod through to listen to music is no longer working we have tried various different aux cables but it seems it's the socket itself. Dad wants to keep the DAB radio as he enjoys it but we are struggling to find something to play the iPod through. I've tried a Bluetooth connection but that was very hit and miss and no suitable really I've looked for a 30 pin speaker but a lot are no longer available or second hand. I'm therefore wondering if I can download his music on to Google speaker or Alexa so he can just speak to the speaker and ask for the song he wants - is this possible? I'm not familiar with either speaker and from what I've read they seem to suggest you need to plug them into the laptop to get them to play the music. Alternatively if anyone has any other options I've not considered please do let me know. Dad has sight problems so would need either a very simple remote or a voice option to work it. Many thanks

I think answer is yes but someone geekier than me should comment.

You can convert the 30pin connector to 3.5mm,
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01L7PTQ6A?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 - the USB end will charge the iPod while it plays. There are also a few 30pin docks and speakers still available.

You can't download music to the robots-in-cans; they only play from a streaming service - Amazon Music, Google Music, Spotify, that sort of thing.

With the Alexas, you can ask them to connect over bluetooth rather than having to fiddle with menus, would that be useful? Once it's set up, "Alexa pair bluetooth" will do the thing.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Google speakers can do the same.

@TheHighestSardine thank you! I'll give the converter a try I think because if I can get the iPod to work on his dab radio he can use the remote - thank you very much 💐
