Photo storage

Morning all.
I have just seen an advert for a memory stuck that searches for and store photos from different devices.
I suppose any memory stick would do that!
But just wondered how everyone else stores photos.
They are everywhere- old phones, tablets, pc.
Perhaps I should just print them all out and make lovely books!

Personally, I would have them saved on my hard drive, as USB sticks, separate devices can fall out of use, however the pc will be used for a long time, we are already using new USB C Cables so a USB stick will soon be obsolete, at least it's connection type will be!

The USB stick based solutions don't come with much storage. They certainly wouldn't hold my wife's photo collection.

Also you would need to back it up somewhere.

I have seen a program called Phototeca, or something like that recommended for organising your photo collection. I haven't used it seriously so I couldn't offer personal experience.

If you truly have a lot, and you want to use multiple devices then a Network Attached Storage system is a good choice.

They can be configured as a RAID array so no need to back up - just keep an eye on the disks, if one fails then replace it.

There is a slight problem in finding a single storage device compatible with phones. tablets, PCs etc. The way I end up doing it is connecting the device to my Windows laptop which has an external 2.5" hard drive also attached. I then copy photos etc from e.g. the tablet to laptop and then copy to hard drive. That way I have two sets of backups in case of device failure.
