Good spec for new laptop?

What’s a good baseline for a new laptop these days? It’s for normal basic stuff inc remote accessing into work and Spotify, internet, possibly a bit of streaming but no gaming. Would like a decent size screen and won’t be travelling much with it so doesn’t need to be super light. Sturdy is probably better given the number of under 8yo in my house! Would like to spend no more than £800

I would look at a Chromebook

The downside to the Chromebook, is that they generally have smaller screens, and may not support the software for your remote access.

For durability, I'd go for a Lenovo T series, you can often find very good condition ex business ones on places like tier1online for a fraction of the new cost.

For your use and budget, I'd look at an i5 processor 8 or 16gb ram and an SSD ideally 512gb, but at least 256gb. Go for a full HD screen unless you really want a 4k screen (battery drains quicker)

Lenovo sale section and Dell outlet are my go-to places for new warrantied laptops.

I would have said core i5 processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SS and 15.6 in screen would be good enough for most people. A nice sturdy Dell Latitude like this one www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Latitude-3500-i5-8265U-3-9GHz-8GB-RAM-256GB-SSD-Win-10-BRAND-NEW-IN-BOX/174192260275 fits that spec. I would make an offer around £400 and go up to £420 if necessary.
