What causes dead pixels on a smartphone?

Hiya.

Sorry I've I posted in the wrong place but does anyone know what causes dead pixels on a LCD screen smartphone?
I have an Honor V10 which is still under warranty. Pretty early on bright white dots appeared on my screen. I must admit I've just got on with it convinced it was screen burn. How I have around 6 and they are really annoying. So I contacted Huawei/Honor after realising it is still under warranty.
I asked the what it could be and they said screen burn or dead pixels. I thought it could be screen burn but he read that this is really uncommon on LCD screens so more likely dead pixels?

Anyway they said the screen would need to be replaced under the warranty. I thought great. Then of course they said subject to no pyhsical screen damage or water damage. I am confident about both as my phone and screen have always been well protected. However I have since read that huawei/honor along with other manufacturers claim warranty is void due to water damage. Hand on my heart my phone has never been near water, and works absolutely perfectly. The only issue is the dots on the screen. I am worried they are going to claim water damage which seems to be a common rejection though alot of people stress this isnt the case. I've also heard the humidity can trigger to indicators to change colour?
Can water damage cause dead pixels?

I know I'm abit premature but just trying to gauge what causes the fault. Not going to lie if they do claim water damage I will be so annoyed because it absolutely isn't the case

They are just dead pixels. Bits fail, just like a hard disk or RAM memory - errors happen - just in memory they are mapped around. Pixels on a screen can't be hidden.

All that can be done is replace the screen, water damage would be more extensive but individual pixels are a manufacturing/QA fault.

@cdtaylornats thank you. I thought so but can they still claim the warranty is void due to water damage which I disagree with completely.
I'm up for a battle but wanted to see if there could be any connection between the two before making my point the dead pixels is a manufacturing fault and not due to water

Bright white dots - are these tiny, almost microscopic dots? In which case stuck or dead pixels.

If they are much larger with diffuse borders, like a fingerprint, they are more likely to be due to physical damage something like the stud or a key pressing against the screen when sat down, or an intense heat source on the screen like focussed sunlight through a glass or window

Hi. I would say they are really small, but not microscopic. I've also noticed you can only see them on a white and coloured screens. They aren't visible on a black screen

If they say water damage you say you will get an engineer to check and then sue for a new phone, cost of the report and ask for damages.

Thank you. It seems the vast majority of phones are refused due to water damage. But this is something I dispute. So thanks for the advice
