Hi … we have just bought a new ipad for my daughter. When I signed it onto my icloud identity, it downloaded all our previous photos onto her device. How can I delete them from her device without deleting them from the cloud? She is at the age when she will delete all her photos because 'I used to look so geeky' and I could not bear to lose them altogether. I went onto settings on her device and disabled icloud in photos, but they are still there in the gallery on her device.
Any ideas?

Start her own account and you can link them both with the family sharing. This would also give you lots of parental controls and monitoring options. Plus she can access any apps you've already paid for without paying for them again.

I'm not sure you can separate the photos whilst using the same account.

So would I delete my account from the new ipad? She has an icloud account; can I somehow sign out of mine and sign her in to hers? I really don't know anything about apple technology ...

Restore to factory settings and start again

LadyG - last resort but may have to … she is 13 now, so it looks as if she has to do it all. I want her to be able to share my purchased apps but not have access to our family photos!

Set her up with her own Apple ID, but link it to yours with family sharing. You can share the things you want to, but she won't automatically have access to anything, so any apps/photos etc that you don't want her to have are safe.

If it's new, it's probably easiest to factory reset and set it up as a new iPad, although it is possible to just sign out and sign back in.

Both of my young teens have their own iPhones with their own Apple IDs but they are linked (and controlled) by me.

You need to reset the iPad and start again by using her own Apple ID. Once that is done, go to your phones setting and invite daughter to your family group. By doing this you can choose what you can share with each other and also what she can/can't view or download. You can even set time limits on her device and have it stop working at a certain time if you want.

Thank you, all. Following your advice, we are getting there … now trying to work out why she could buy procreate pocket but not procreate - we bought it so that she could do art …
