Anyone know anything about Bluetooth and sound systems?

DH has a big birthday coming up. We have a nice stereo, bought as an expensive wedding gift 15 years ago. DH really likes it, but it is a CD and analogue radio, so not much use. I want to get him a Spotify subscription and a way to play it in our open plan living area. Am I best to get a Bluetooth speaker? Or a converter thing to make the current stereo play via Bluetooth? (it has an aux 'port', so this should work). Any recommendations? Thanks!

I think if you plug your phone or device with music using the aux and a cable music should play... however I have a fab bluetooth speaker and use spotify and I love it. Can take my music anywhere.

yeah - he can plug the phone in manually, but it's a bit of a faff! I want him to be able to play music from phone or laptop (which is usually on the breakfast bar!) straight to a speaker without any buggering about. I guess I was really thinking about which option would give the best quality sound - the old speakers with an adapter, or a new Bluetooth speaker...
What's the quality like with yours?

We have a Wonderboom blue tooth speaker which we use in an open plan kitchen lounge. It is really good. No messing about with cables and more than one person can link to it so you can use it when he is out. Sound quality is good. Waterproof and drop proof. You just plug it in to charge it up. We got it from Amazon. You can also buy more and link them together.

the quality is amazing with my speaker, its a UE bluetooth, gets amazing reviews. Ive also had a Bose speaker and this one gets great reviews. Im not a fan of Anker - just not as good sound quality.

You could use a Bluetooth adapter for your existing system if the speakers are of good quality - c.£25

Not sure what your budget is but the Marshall Stanmore 2 is getting rave reviews currently but there are a plethora of Bluetooth speakers out there to consider. Alternatively, you can go down the Wi-Fi speaker route with the likes of Sonos - a couple of Sonos One's are pretty decent as a stereo pair. They link to your internet hub and are very easy to set up and Spotify can be easily incorporated into the Sonos app's functionality.
