Recommendation for touch typing course for 13 year old?

I am looking for recommendations for a course for my daughter to learn touch typing. Ideally something that teaches which fingers to use for which keys to start with. Happy to buy a programme or can be free. Have read previous posts about "Mavis Beacon" but unable to find latest version. Thanks very much.

Googled the question and came across this free interactive program. Its American accent is just about ok lol. See if it is what yr looking for.

kaz-type.com - a friend recommended this, but I don't know too much about it. Might be worth a look.

www.mavisbeaconfree.com/

Can I ask why - it is a pointless skill these days.

it is a pointless skill these days.

Why?

How is it a pointless skill. I learnt on a manual typewriter many many moons ago. It is singularly to most useful skill I have.

'Typing of the Dead' or 'versus Zombies' might work well - in the former you have to type words over each monster to make them go away.

It is pointless because by the time she needs the skill most text entry into computers will be by voice.

There's loads free online touch typing courses. If she does one with a login it will save her progress.

cdtaylornats You do know that large parts of UK banking, the NHS, DWP and many councils still run on Windows 95/98/XL? There's a lot of pretty bolt ons for cosmetics purposes, but underneath the shiny, the infrastructure is ancient.

You could literally say that about anything. "What's the point in learning a language because by the time children grow up it will be auto-translated."

When we were 13 (in 1985!), my year at school was taught how to type, regardless of sex and future career - I went to school with sons of farmers that would be taking over the family farm, they learnt how to type!

Learning how to type accurately and fast is one of the best skills that school taught me especially as I'm on a keyboard most of the time.

Try Doorway Online :)

Thank you for all these suggestions. She has been working her way through BBC Bitesize dancemat over the summer holiday which has taught her where all the keys are - seems like she can now touch type accurately but very slowly without looking at the keyboard. I think she now needs one which offers lots of exercises to practise and challenge which this one does not have. Does anyone know something that does please?

Charley50 I have found several on line courses but they all seem a bit scammy when I click them - are there any in particular you were thinking of? Thanks.
