Help oh wise ones!

I initiated a local writing competition which was very successful in terms of entries and interest it generated locally.

What was a one off project, now looks to be an annual event. The local council, businesses and creative groups are behind it.

So: I need a stand-alone website. I am looking at WORDPRESS, I am not tecky in the slightest so could get this horribly wrong.
The main aims of the website are for publicity purposes, (a one-off stop), publishing winning stories and a feature to upload entries. I would also be looking at a review section to give up and coming local writers a chance to put up their reviews of local bands, gigs, plays etc.
I have looked into creative copyright and can take advice on that. But what are your thoughts of wordpress for a start up website. Any pitfalls, and are there better companies out there?

Thank you.

There are a few websites you can try. Wordpress is fine but not my choice. I use Weebly and I like it a lot. There's also 1and1, that's who my former workplace used. SquareSpace is great but it's a paid service. Maybe have a wee browse about and see what ones take your fancy? Weebly and 1and1 both have very good website building features where you just click and drag in what you want like text boxes, photos, etc. And you can make different pages.

1&1 are now called 1&1 Ionos. I've used them for 15 years without problems. Very helpful at building sites and you get 50 email addresses with your domain.
