Father's day coming up & I don't know how to choose the best product (DH did ask for these, to listen to music via his iPhone). He doesn't care about genuine Apple product, but must be suitable for cycling, sweat & rain resistant. Would bluetooth version be as good as true wireless?

Any recommendations?

If they are wireless then they will be Bluetooth. If you good best cycling earphones you’ll get some good ones , just pick your budget. I’ve got Bose buds.
You want ones that have different seized buds so he can choose so they fit well. Or hooks over ears. Don’t get Apple air pods or similar

I don't know about cycling, but for running you should get bone conduction headphones for safety so you can still hear traffic. I expect this is the same for cycling. After shokz are a really popular brand with good reviews but a high end price.

I tried bone conduction ones for swimming & they were useless, terrible sound quality (so disappointed). I have no faith in those being any good.

I did wonder about the safety thing... will ask him how he plans to manage that.

This article talks about "true wireless" vs. bluetooth (different article for bluetooth), makes it sound like "true wireless" is NOT using bluetooth. Another article about how they differ. Says to get Bluetooth 4.0 to get good sound quality. Sounds like Bluetooth has edge for being likely to plug & go.

Unless you want to get an adapter to plug into his phone/ iPod etc then get bluetooth- they’re the most common found.

There have been loads of magazine articles recently in the run up summer- you’ll find them all online. Top ten etc. Pick ones in your budget from that list. I don’t ride on roads so I’m not fussed about hearing traffic. If he ride some on roads or through a city commute he shouldn’t be wearing earphones really. If he’s off track etc fine.
You haven’t said what your budget is?

lljkk · 18/05/2019 20:57

Pfffft. Dunno about budget. Preferably < £100.
Local cyclists in electrical good shop recommended a £12 over-ears pair (sweat resistant).
Which is appealing.
DH also said "low profile" but I'm unsure what he thinks that means.

Low profile just means not sticky out ones. Ones with hooks tend to be low profile. To be honest, I’ve got Bose ear buds and a £17 pair from amazon- soundpeats.

Both good for different things but the Bose ones are ££££ And I worry about losing one of them! I’d go with what the cycle shop recommended. Just check that they come with some different sized set of buds for a good fit. That’s the best tip!

Lots of big sticky out ones appear when I google images for 'low profile ear buds' (oh dear). I thought maybe low profile was a sound quality attribute. Better ask DH what he thinks the words mean.

I google the same and get low profile so I’m not sure what has come up for you. Perhaps just ask him has he seen any in particular he likes? I could give you five options, which are great but he might not like any of them!
