Sky Q ruined my satellite! Help!

I have looked at the techy forums already and can't seem to get a definitive answer on this one -

We had sky Q, it was getting pricey, so I cancelled last month.
Switched phone lines, internet providers, the works.

Bought a lead to connect our tv to our rooftop aerial. It doesn't work, probably damaged. Haven't used it in years as have had a sky dish.

Tried to use an old sky HD box with our dish. No signal.

Turns out that sky have altered our dish when Q was installed, and now we can't watch free view unless we pay for someone to come and put our dish back to normal.

My question is - is there any device I can buy that will enable us to watch free view live channels without an aerial or a dish?

(Chances of getting dish fixed are slim as the dish is three storeys high and needs a specialist heights team - not something that DH or handyman could do easily themselves)

Sky have basically said "tough shit", even though they made the alteration and didn't tell me they would be effectively rendering my dish useless if I ever left them.

Any ideas?

Which bit of an engineer coming and changing the LNB made you think everything would be the same?

Now TV box might help

The short answer is no. Freeview is broadcast so can only be received if you have an aerial and a reasonable signal. Freesat provides a similar service but needs a working sattelite dish.

If you have a smart TV or something else that provides similar capabilities (e.g. a Now TV box) you will be able to use iPlayer to watch the BBC channels both live and on catch-up, ITV Hub similarly for ITV channels, All4 for channel 4 and My5 for channel 5. However, it won't give you the full range of channels you get on Freeview and you may need to upgrade your broadband for it to work properly.

Some kind of internet box, Amazon fire plus an indoor aerial? My boyfriend uses an indoor one, it's not great, some channels you have to faff about to get, but the main 5 and quite a few others work well

We had to have our aerial replaced due to it being so old.

Thanks for replying you lot.

Prh47 sadly for me you are right!

Bit of a pain because it's going to cost at least £150 to put the dish right.

Moral of the story - don't get sky Q unless you are prepared to stay with them for as long as you both shall live Grin
