Hi

I'm sure this has been asked before but here goes...

Anyone know of any free software to build a website with. I've tried using the software provided by the hosting company but it is SO slow and keeps crashing!

My DH used Dreamweaver, although I don't think it's free.

vi (I'll get my coat..)

Errmm.. ...what kind of stuff are you looking for? WYSIWYG stuff where you edit the pages like word or something less user friendly?

boo64 · 12/06/2007 13:58

Something dead easy where I can just load text in from word and maybe a photo or two and a link. No coding please!!

Don't know of any free ones I'm afraid (not for windows anyway). Microsoft very kindly have a download for a free 60 day trial of Expression which is the new frontpage type application which might be useful?

Is it easy to use? I used to be quite techy but am very out of touch!

Notepad?

HandyTrinkett · 12/06/2007 15:01

Hey DrDaddy - if you're gonna code then it's vi all the way... ...or emacs... ;-)
In the real world I use a combination of vi and Eclipse but neither is suitable for boo64.

boo - I imagine Expression is as easy to use as Word - it's Microsofts product to try and get everyone creating rich online content.

Definitely need something very user friendly.

My geek credentials are that I used to code in cobol for a big management consultancy - reluctantly I might add as it was a rite of passage for all their consultants. But these days I wouldn't know a bit of code if it hit me in the face!!

emacs....wow, that takes me back!
boo - you say you used to be quite techy? You can get 30 day evaluation copies of Dreamweaver etc.
Yahoo used to have quite a good editor; I remember building a site for someone on that. You can then copy and paste the html into your own environment.
Otherwise, why not set up a myspace site if it's just text and media you want to show?

HandyTrinkett · 12/06/2007 15:36

Microsoft also have Spaces online which is like MySpace funnily enough...

....are you blogging or doing something fancy?

boo64 · 13/06/2007 13:19

Hi

I just want to create a simple site to showcase my work - nothing flashy but not a blog.

Would spaces work for this (hate the name - what a copy of myspace!)
