Hi

I've got a few machines in the house which are all linked through wireless network with Linksys.

I've just bought a new laptop with built in wireless and I'm not sure how to get it connected to my router? The others all have network adapters and I just put the disc in and follow instructions but that's simple, they are all Linksys. Not sure how to setup this one that has the wireless built in.

Please help

Windoze or Mac? Either way just open up the wireless networking interface and search.....

Give me more details and I will try and walk you through it.

Just make sure the switch on your laptop is set to wireless on. DH spent about 3 hours swearing when he tried to set up his laptop as he couldn't get it wireless enabled, only to discovered he hadn't turned the switch on...

Thanks everyone

It's Windows. After posting this message I noticed an icon next to my clock (bottom right) and when I hovered over it it said something about wireless disabled or something. Anyway, done lots of playing and I can't remember everything I've done but I did at one point have to press Fn + F2 for it to search and it found the network.

The problems I'm having now is it's asking for a password/Encryption Key and I have no idea and have tried a few things I thought it could be but no success

Have a look at our router. Some have the encryption key on a label on the bottom.

Obviously our router would be no good at all. Look at your router lol!

Have you actually encrypted your current set up? Did you install it or an engineer type person?

There will be a password or code that you need to access the system when you set up the connnection on your laptop. You could try just pressing enter which may work if you have not passsword encrypted it.

whomovedmychocolate · 05/05/2007 19:52

Try pressing enter and if that doesn't work, try using your internet password. Most people mistakenly use the same one when they set them up.

Thanks everyone.

After reading your messages I have look under the router and can see different codes etc but none of these are being accepted. Nothing is actually labelled 'encryption key'.

I set up the router etc in the first place and don't remember entering any kind of password. I've hooked up a couple of laptops recently (with Linkys Network Adapters) and have had no problems with needing a password or anything???

I also tried just pressing enter but it won't have that!

Also tried my internet password but no joy. It's saying I need a mix of letters and numbers between 8-63 characters.

After doing some research, it looks like I've found something I need to try. I read 'Locate the network secret password within the wireless router's configuration pages' Does anyone know what this actually means? Am I looking for a text file on the main PC? I think I'll pop up and check

YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE - sorted!!!

Thanks so much. After you posted that I thought it looks like something I'd already tried so I looked up the code again, wrote it done again and typed VERY carefully - it worked!!! I reckon that because my z's look like a 3, I couldn't read my own writing and typed it wrong

Thanks so so much
