I phone 7 won't charge

DD's iphone 7 won't charge, it is completely drained even to try the reset. Occasionally the battery bar comes on and then goes straight off.

I spoke to Apple help desk today and they tried via iTunes and zero.

Any ideas how much this is going to cost or should I just try and claim through the insurance?
Thanks

If you can hold on for a while, Apple are launching a battery replacement service for £25 soon. Have a look at the Apple UK website. Was supposed to be end of January.

Thanks Leafy, I know Apple charge a fortune for replaced screens etc so didn't want to take it and then be told they can't fix it and still charge.

It's only 16 mo this old.

Clean the fluff out of the charger port with a cocktail still.

Chances are you will be amazed/disgusted by what comes out, it will start charging again, and the reason it wasn’t charging will be pretty obvious (metal needs to touch metal)

The above assumes you have tried other cables, chargers etc first to rule that out.

Was going to say the same as mumsy above. This has been the reason many many times that my iPhone hasn't charged. You wouldn't believe the amount of shite that gets stuck up there, particularly in the corners and edges. Probably stating the obvious, and you've probably tried it, but try a different cable too - the apple ones are (or at least used to be) rubbish.

Just tried to clean out with tooth pick, nothing and no change.

I've tried various chargers and zilch.

Ahhh

Take it to an Apple store, there’s a very good chance they’ll replace the battery for free. Do not mention poking toothpicks in the charging point though.

I won't, thanks for all your advice.!

Force Restart

We have mentioned that a software glitch can cause this problem. Also, if there was a software crash, the software becomes unresponsive which is why your iPhone or iPad won’t charge. You know that any device can behave strangely at times, in which case the restart is the first thing many of us will try. On the other hand, we can be so frustrated when the problem occurs that we often forget the simple things that can do miracles. That is why force restart is something you should start with. It is an easy thing to do and yet very effective.

Press and hold the Sleep/wake button and the Home button at the same time
Keep holding the buttons at least 10 seconds
Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears
Try to charge your iPhone again.

Is it on contract? Vodafone have extended the warranty on iPhones to 2 years if it’s with them? They repaired mine for me and offered a replacement for the meantime.

Princess - first thing I tried, not enough battery though.

We bought the phone and she has sim only contract, worked out cheaper.

DD just told me she tried to do the update, the battery was on 12%, but plugged. Then it drained and hasn't worked since.

Does it not tell you to make sure the battery is at least 50% and the phone plugged in before you start an update?

scotchpie · 02/02/2018 23:30

I think it can be on any % if plugged in, she just done it without checking.

Teenagers 😐
